Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Neuroscience

Interdisciplinary research at the interface of neuroscience, psychiatry, and computer science

caian is a research centre within the Transdisciplinary Research Area "Life and Health" at University of Bonn, which aims to enhance our understanding of life across theoretical and disciplinary boundaries.

We investigate the human brain, cognition, and behaviour from a transdisciplinary perspective, drawing on the fields of neuroscience, computer science, and psychology. Using artificial intelligences as scientific discovery models and as research tools, we seek to understand biological intelligence, how it is enabled in the central nervous system, and how it fails in neuropsychiatric disorder.

Publication Alert: New Paper and R Package for Experiment-based Calibration
We show that Bayesian meta-analytic model comparison is a suitable framework for inference in calibration, and propose a decision-theoretic approach to calculate immediate economic gain garnered through reduced sample sizes. In order to overcome the practical hurdles associated with the analysis of calibration experiments, we present CalibR, an R package for calibration inference. Publication Alert: New Paper on Prediction Errors in Human Pavlovian Fear Conditioning
It has been speculated that psychophysiological responses to an outcome during learning could express prediction errors. In our latest paper, we address this question in a large sample and in four data modalities. We find responses to outcome omission in all data modalities, but also clear and significant evidence against an expression of prediction errors.
